Leadership, simply put is the ability to get followers. There have been many different types and styles of leaders, some more successful than others, but what sets the leaders apart from the rest?

As a leader, you are not pulled to high levels of success but rather lifted there by your followers and supporters.

Gaining support and cooperation requires great leadership. Success and leadership go hand in hand. Take a minute to read these four tips to help you on your way.

  • Use the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you! Treat others as you would like to be treated. Each time you are faced with a difficult situation or decision, ask yourself, how would you like to be treated in this situation. Then, take the steps to treat the person in that fashion.
  • Think of the person you are trying to influence. Consider the other person. Put yourself in their shoes. Get their perspective. How would they react, based on their situation? What would you like them to do? Buy product? Place an order? And then take the action that would excite you if you were the other person.
  • Raise your standards. This includes your daily personal life and your work life. Settling for mediocrity is a leader’s downfall. Look at the way you dress. I am not saying go out and buy a new suit. But maybe take pride in your appearance. You do not need a new car but keep the one you do have in good repair and clean! There are simple ways to raise your standards. Once a day, or before you leave your desk, ask yourself what is the one thing I can do right now to make my office/desk/area/ look neater. Then take action and do it!
  • Take time to think and organize your thoughts. Take thirty minutes minimum to be alone with your thoughts each day. The main job of the leader is thinking. Use this thirty minutes to find solutions for business, personal and other related problems. Being alone for thirty minutes allows you to find the next step without being disturbed by small talk and gossip.

These four simple tips will help you on your way to becoming a successful leader.
