How to Create Your 5 -1 Success Ratio
Business Management July 3rd. 2009, 1:11amDr. Pritchett, the author of “You 2(Squared)“, talks about how the really successful leaders created their success by doing certain actions that less successful people don’t do. He summarizes these into what he calls creating a 5-1 success ratio with 6 power moves that anyone can learn.
He says that all top leaders exhibit these next power moves:
- The Power of Positive Demeanor: When you meet someone, you body instantly reacts to the other person’s emotional state. This is the process of mirroring and it is an instant response connected to brain cells called “mirror neurons”. These neurons sense what the other person will do, they tune into the person’s feelings and mirror what the person does. Being an optimistic is a good thing instead of being thought of as a pessimist. But acting like an optimist would act is the key to this power move. To be an optimistic at all times and put this power move into play, carry yourself as an optimist would, so you can capture the first movement of influence from the other person rather than mirror that person’s emotional state. This is often called posturing in network marketing circles.
- The Power of Positive Expectations: What you expect is what you tend to get. We often hear this phrase: “Beware of what you wish for, you just might get it!” ? If you believe in your team, then manifest this power move by giving recognition, encouragement, approval or even asking for other opinions. You will be showing that you value your team members and they will in turn emulate your behavior with their team. Monkey see, monkey do. It’s all about duplication after all.
- The Power of Positive Attention: This power move is much like the last one except it focuses not only on expecting positive results but also making sure that the attention you give is of a positive nature rather than a negative one.
- The Power of Positive Guiding Questions: All questions are guiding questions, in fact. But it’s all in the way you ask these questions. For example, someone at work asks for help. The person is already feeling less capable since they can’t finish their task. Instead of saying ” what do you want?” which furthers the negative aspect of that person’s inability to complete the task, saying something like ” what are you trying to accomplish?” would move the focus off the person to the task that needs to be done. As a good leader you are shifting the energy to a new level which automatically creates a positive atmosphere.
- The Power of Funny: Humor says it all. Studies have shown that the most successful executives use humor and approval more often than less successful executives. So make light of a situation if appropriate. It relieves tension while still getting to the task at hand in a more positive way.
- The Power of Playing To The Sweet Spot: This power move is very powerful in and of itself. It is your ability to know people well enough to put them in a position where they can do their best. It’s about recognizing each person’s abilities in such a way as to placing them in positions that will enhance their ability in a positive way. Being in a position that the person can excel in will help that person to fine tune their ability, create a positive result and encourage that person to more than likely do more than their best. You will encourage and empower others by playing to their sweet spot.
Although these power moves are traits all extremely successful leaders demonstrate, these skills were not born out of thin air. Even these leaders had to learn from other successful leaders through modeling and duplication. And really great network marketing training is the foundation for creating your 5 to 1 ratio of success.
