Take a long hard look at your company’s hiring practices. Make sure that you are evaluating candidates thoroughly before offering them a job and assuring that they are a good fit for your company. When you are desperate to fill a position, it can be tempting to simply hire the first person who walks through the door.

Another major factor in keeping employees in your company for the long haul is employee motivation. There must be motivating factors in place, through compensation plans, incentive and bonus programs, and opportunities for advancement and promotion. If your employees feel as if they are in a dead end job, they have little that will tie them down. The first time a better opportunity comes along, they will likely take it.
In most cases, one of these factors will reveal the answer to an employee retention problem. Once the issue has been determined, you can take steps to correct the problem and begin rebuilding your staff with a new approach that should keep employees happy and motivated. Though turnover issues can be very problematic for businesses, in most cases, issues can be corrected with a bit of solid management.
