11 Attributes Every Leader Shares
- A leader is possessed with his dreams. A leader looks ahead constantly, working on a vision for a better future. Always content, but never willing to settle for less than what they desire without a fight.
- A leader launches forth before success is certain. If others are not nervous, concerned, skeptical, pessimistic, or negative about where you are headed, then it’s probably been done before and is not a very big deal. Leaders embark on journeys that have not been attempted.
- A leader talks about his own mistakes before talking about someone else’s. Leaders are not perfect, and are willing to acknowledge what they need to work on. They are their own worst critic, and know that the log in their own eye is often larger than the splinter in someone elses.
- A leader makes others better. Positivity, motivation, uplifting, support, help, accountability, example. We all need these things.
- A leader is quick to praise and encourage the smallest amount of improvement. Every leader knows that they got to their position by small, single steps in that direction, not huge advances forward. Leaders celebrate small victories, uplifting their followers.
- A leader is genuinely interested in others. People are selfish by nature, and leaders know that others want and need to be listened to and focused on.
- A leader takes others up with him. A smart leader surrounds themselves with others that are smarter and more gifted than they are.
- A leader never allows murmuring-from himself or others. Leaders never allow gossip or negative talk to infiltrate their organization.
- A leader does what is right rather than what is popular. The masses are usually looking for what is popular, that is why they never become great. My favorite quote is - “Two roads diverged into the wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference.” (Frost) Doing what is right will ensure that integrity and honesty is the foundation of a leaders value system.
- A leader is a servant. A leader is the first one to do what no one else wants to. You don’t need to look any further than when the Son of God washed his disciples feet.
- A leader goes the extra mile. A leader does more than what is expected of them. Up early, up late, drive anywhere, fly anywhere, not only willing to do the work necessary to reach success, but willing to work harder than anyone else to get there.
